My grandparents, George and Alice Fountain are buried in the Fountain Cemetery . . . which was part of the town of Fountain, Oklahoma . . . a town that existed from 1895 to 1916. The town was named after my granduncle, Albert Schuyler {Scott} Fountain who owned a small store and was the first postmaster of the town. Schuyler sold his homestead in 1906 to William Goode who moved the store to the newly chartered town of Canton, Oklahoma. The small town of Fountain was a casualty of the growth of Canton, Oklahoma which was on the railroad route laid in that part of the territory.
My father was raised on a farm near the Fountain Cemetery about 8 miles west and 1 mile south of Canton.  My grandfather, George Fountain and his brother Albert Schuyler Fountain settled in Little Robe township, Oklahoma Territory, when land was opened for "runs" in 1889 and 1895
