Shirley Yvonne (Tyree) Curtis was born April 14, 1920 in Fairview, Oklahoma. As a child she lived with her parents, Herbert “Hub” and Nellie (Carpenter) on a farm east of Seiling. She attended grade school in Fonda, Oklahoma. She graduated as salutatorian from Seiling High School in 1937.

Shirley married LeRoy Curtis on January 5, 1944 in Bethany, OK. While LeRoy was shipped overseas for WWII, Shirley worked at Tinker Air Force Base and graduated from Blackwood-Davis Business College. In 1949 they moved back to Canton and opened the Curtis grocery store for the next eight years. She also retired after working for the Canton Grain Company under the management of L.L. Light.

A devoted Christian who loved to sing in the choir, teach sunday school, and participated in C.W.F. at Canton Christian Church. Shirley was an avid bridge player who was part of the Over-bidders club. She was also a member of the Canton Iris Garden Club and CON 6 Home Demonstration Club. Coffee time with her girlfriends and sisters was always one of her favorite pastimes, as well as, fishing, and following her grandchildren to whatever sporting events they were participating in. The love and loyalty that she had for God, her family and friends will always be remembered and cherished.

On January 8, 2014, Shirley departed this earth to be with her Lord and Savior. She is preceded in her death by her husband, LeRoy Curtis, parents “Hub” and Nellie Tyree and daughter Vickie Hoskins. Survived by her sisters, Darlene and husband Bud Robinson, Joyce Robison, brother Paul Tyree and daughter Shirley Canaday of Cave Junction, OR; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Cemetery west of Canton under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. Condolences may be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
