ENID - The funeral for Charles Warren Reed, 84, of Canton, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Steve Discoll will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. in Fountain Cemetery, west of Canton. Arrangements are by Nichols Funeral Home, Fairview. Family visitation will be this evening at the home of Charles Reed, west of Canton.

He was born April 13, 1925, on the family farm to Park W. and Cecil Shreve Reed and died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Fairview Fellowship Home.

He attended school at Pumpkin Ridge and Long-dale and graduated from Con 6 High School in 1941.

He worked on the family farm and helped build the Canton Dam by driving heavy equipment. He was a member of Midway Asembly of God Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and deacon.

He entered the Army Oct. 27, 1943, and was discharged Feb. 25, 1944, due to health problems.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator in Colorado, maintaining roads and silver mines.

He married Cellestia Erkman Jan. 15, 1954, in Fruita, Colo. They made their home on a farm in Poor Knob near Canton. He completed ground school and obtained his pilot's license for single-engine planes. He served on the Longdale School Board for 18 years.

He attended Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene before entering Fairview Fellowship Home in 2009. She died in July 2009.

Surviving are two daughters, Fern Reed Elder of Canton and Ruby Wilcox of Fairview; one son, Paul Reed of Ardmore; one sister, Ada Reed Taligatos Gilstrap of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
