The funeral for Cellestia Ruth Reed, 78, of Canton, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Cedar Springs Church of the Naza-rene. The Rev. Herb Berkley will officiate. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in Fountain Cemetery, west of Canton. The Rev. Paul Reed will officiate. Arrangements are by Nichols Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Fairview. Visitation with the family will be after 6 p.m. today at their home west of Canton.

She was born April 4, 1931, in Loma, Colo., to Charles and Mary Lichtenberger Erkman, and died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Fairview Fellowship Home.

She attended school in Loma, Colo., and Monument High School in Fruita, Colo. She graduated high school in 1945 and college in 1949. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., in 1953 and taught her first year in Delta, Colo.

She married Charles W. Reed Jan. 15, 1954, in Fruita. They made their home on Poor Knob, west of Canton. They traveled to all 50 states as well as Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti and the Caribbean. She was active in Midway Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, songleader and singer of special songs.

She was a member of Neighborhood Circle Home Extension Club, Longdale PTA and Canton Band Boosters. She attended Cedar Springs Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are her husband, Charles, of the home; two daughters, Fern Reed Elder of Canton and Ruby Wilcox of Fairview; one son, Paul Reed of Ardmore; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Billy Graham Crusade or the Fountain Cemetery, P.O. Box 332, Fairview, OK 73737.
