Verne L. "Jay" McIntyre was born April 11, 1923 in Carter, Oklahoma to
Vida Mae and Verne LaGran McIntyre, Sr. He passed away April 6, 2014 at
Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Jay grew up and attended school in Retrop, Oklahoma. He was married to
Evelyn LaVesta (Bohanan) McIntyre, at Yukon, Oklahoma on June 6, 1942.
Jay was drafted into the Army Air Corps/United States Air Force in 1943.
He served as part of the 865th Air Squadron where he was stationed…
in the Philippines and worked as a mechanic on the heavy equipment
during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, Jay and Evelyn lived
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carter, Oklahoma and Sentinel, Oklahoma
before moving back to the Oklahoma City metro area where they made their
home. Jay retired in 1988 from the State of Oklahoma as a mechanic for
the transportation department. Jay was an avid domino player and never
turned down the chance to pull a prank on someone. He was also a member
of the Piedmont Nazarene Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, 1 daughter, Anna Mae Smith, 1
grandson, Paul Duran, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, Piedmont, OK; 3 daughters, Phyllis
Clark and husband, John, Meeker, OK, Pam Butler and husband, Dan,
Piedmont, OK and Karrie McIntyre, Oklahoma City, OK; 9 grandchildren, 15
great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 1 sister, Opal Reynolds,
Yukon, OK and a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014
from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM with family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00 PM
at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury Avenue, Bethany, OK.
