John Arnold Gibson, 65, former Little Axe, Oklahoma resident passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma.
He was born October 31, 1955 to John Buck Gibson and Elsie Wynona (Blanchard) Patti in Norman, Oklahoma.
John was raised in Little Axe and graduated from Noble High School. John was married to Evelyn Bull made his home in Claremore, Oklahoma.
He was a machinist and worked for Rockwell and Boeing in Tulsa and retired in 2020 from Spirit Aerospace Systems.
John enjoyed going to Pow-Wows, stomp dances, attending and participating in his ceremonial activities, traveling, camping, golfing, fishing, softball and loved coaching. He also enjoyed going to the casino and Woody’s Auction, but most of all he loved supporting his grandkids sporting activities. He was full blood Absentee Shawnee Tribe member and proud of his heritage.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Terri (McClelland) Gibson of 33 years; his father, John “Buck” Gibson; son, Anthony “Tony” Gibson; and 3 brothers, Melvin Gibson, James Gibson and Donnie Gibson.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bull of the home; son, Jeremy and Jackie Gibson of Claremore, OK; daughter, Johnna and Codey Pendergraft of Claremore, OK; and sons, Jarrett Jackson of Norman, OK and Cortney Yarholar of Moore, OK; 7 grandchildren, Nesta Bradley of N.C., Johnathan Gibson, Jaylan Gibson, Jaysan Gibson, Terri Bates, Toney Gibson and Jeremy Gibson, Jr., all of Claremore, OK; 2 great-grandchildren, Kason Bradley and Aggie Bradley of N.C.; his mother, Elsie Patti of Little Axe, OK; 1 sister, Darla June Gatzman of Norman, OK; 3 brothers, Elvis Gibson of Cushing, OK, Jeff Gibson of Little Axe, OK and John Ballard of Miami, OK; mother-in-law, DeLoyce Archie of Claremore, OK; step-children, Joetta and Hyde Toppah, Jeanise Perry, Crystal and Sonny Hawk, Clarissa Perry and Brayden Bull; step-grandchildren, Natanii Toppah, Mamie Hawk, Christopher Tsosie, Evie Hawk and Adence Archie, Abel Archie and Tesla Archie; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Tribal Rites will be 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2021 at Brendle Corner with George Blanchard officiating. Burial will be Saturday morning, March 13, 2021 at Absentee Shawnee Tribe Burial Grounds under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
