Stillwater, Okla. —Melinda “Beth” Johnson, 53, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Stillwater.

Beth was born on Dec. 27, 1956, to Arvel and Mattie Lena Sumpter in Sallisaw.

She married Philip Johnson on Dec. 16, 1977 in Stillwater.

Beth graduated from Meeker High School in 1975, attended Seminole Junior College, earning an associate degree, continuing her education at Oklahoma State University where she stayed to work as a secretary for many years. However, after her second grandchild was born she made the decision to stay home and help raise her grandchildren. A majority of her time was devoted to caring for her family and others around her. She even worked at Community Access assisting handicapped adults.

She was a very talented individual. She was an excellent cake decorator and loved any art or craft, as well as animals and children.

She is survived by her parents, Arvel and Mattie Lena; her husband, Philip, of the home; one son, Michael Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Mishelle Johnson-Sanogo and husband, Moustapha, of Stillwater; four grandchildren, Carli B. Winchester, Quinton M. Johnson, Nicholas S. R. Johnson, and Katelin A. Sanogo; one sister, Jannie Barrington and husband, Joe, of Okemah; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Beth will be available for viewing at Strode Funeral Home Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. till 1:30p.m.

Her service will be held 2 p.m.Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Norman Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
