Hominy - Willie "Alice" Thompson, resident of Ponca City, was born in Clovis, N.M., Aug. 15, 1917, the daughter of John William and Hettie Alice Young Cagel. She died April 19, 2004 in Ponca City. She was 86.
Alice lived most of her life in the state of Texas, Hominy, and Ponca City, where she was currently living. She worked as a seamstress for Munsingwear for many years, then as a day care provider in Ponca City. When she retired, she took care of her mother Hettie Cagel, until Hettie's passing. Alice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints of Ponca City. Alice enjoyed being with her family; she especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her sister, Julia Boyles of Ponca City; daughter-in-law, Martha R. Chaney and husband Pat Ragan of Lawrence, Kan.; godchild, Pam and husband Mick Keeler of Ponca City; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Hettie and John Cagel; her sister Pearl; and three sons, Henry L. Chaney Jr., Lester and Lonnie.
The family will receive freinds and family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Powell Funeral Home in Hominy. The family will meet at the home of Pam Keeler before services in Ponca City.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the chapel of Powell Funeral Home in Hominy. There will be a dinner after services at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Ponca City. Bryant J. Hardy is to perform at the funeral. Musical selections include "Families Can Be Together Forever," "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden."
Casket bearers will be Lloyd and Steven Chaney, Chuck, Ralph and Alfred Seward, and Ken Harris.
Burial will be in A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cherokee Strip Credit Union to help take care of final expenses.
