Navajoe Cemetery

Jackson County, Oklahoma

The Navajoe cemetery is located 4 miles North and 9.5 miles East of Altus, OK: 1/2 mile East of the intersection of County Roads N2130 and E1600, on the South side of the road.

Before you think we are all misspelling the word NAVAJOE, let me explain where the town got its name. The mountains on the west side of the North Fork of Red River are the Navajo Mountains, but when the application was sent in for a post office for the town, it was found that there was already a Navajo Post Office so the "e" was added. Therefore the name of the town, school, and cemetery are spelled "Navajoe" and the mountains are spelled "Navajo."
