DURANT — Funeral service for Arthur Ridings, Jr., of Durant, OK will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel in Durant, Ok with Reverend James Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Durant, OK. The pallbearers will be John Anderson, Will Anderson, Harlan Smith, Derik Smith, Bob Roberts, Ernie Wilson and Tom Manseau.
Mr. Ridings passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014 in Gilmer, TX.
Mr. Ridings was born August 10, 1924 in Durant, OK to Arthur Olen and Clara Alice Wilson Ridings. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army, retired Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service in Durant and Calera, OK and a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant since 1937.
Mr. Ridings was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He also was appointed to the selective service system in 1970 and served on the local draft board until the registration process was discontinued in 1976. In 1990 he was installed as charter president of the Diamond K Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, JoAnn Ridings of Durant, OK; son, Phillip Ridings and wife, Linda of Ft. Worth, TX; daughters, Toni Huggins and husband, Ken Haas of Gibsonton, FL, Marsha Birdwell of Gilmer, TX and Carla Anderson and husband, Mac of Skiatook, OK; brother, Grady Ridings of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren, Cathy Manseau and husband, Tom, Melissa Ridings, Harlan Smith and wife, Ryanne Amor-Smith, Derik Smith, Rachel Roberts and husband, Bob, Shirley Wilson and husband, Ernie, John Anderson, Will Anderson and Lauren Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Smith, Peyton Smith, Catherine Wilson and Eric Wilson.
Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dora Mae Dawson and Mary Geneva Merrill.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK.
