Dennis "Kip" Quarles, a respected resident of Durant and beloved family member passed from this life on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 4 days. He was born in Gatesville, Texas on Friday, August 9, 1957 to Jess and Joan Tate Quarles.
Kip was a man who always had a strong work ethic and a deep desire to strive for excellence. He went to Southeastern Oklahoma State University and while there he was a dedicated member of the Delta Chi Fraternity and student government. If there was a job to be done Kip was the one to go to because he always got things done.
Kip was a welder by trade and a entrepreneur at heart opening two successful businesses in the Durant area, PDQ and Red River Recycling and Disposal. He was the proud recipient of the State of Oklahoma Top Small Business Award in 1990. Kip supported his community as a former active member in the Jaycees.
He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Quarles is survived by his son, Aaron Quarles and wife Amy of Denison, Texas; daughter, Lindsay Dawn Quarles of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Eden Bartik of Frisco, Texas, Presley Quarles of Denison, Texas and Brayden Quarles of Denison, Texas; parents, Jess and Joan Quarles of Durant, Oklahoma; devoted friend, Thelma Johnson and her two sons Kyle and Trevor Johnico of Durant, Oklahoma; grandmother, Noma Tate of Durant, Oklahoma; sisters, Khristie Stout and husband Steve of Wichita Falls, Kelly Wetter of Durant, Oklahoma and Tracy Myers and husband Michael of Durant, Oklahoma; mother of his children, Sarah Quarles of Calera, Oklahoma.
Mr. Quarles was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Quarles; paternal grandparents; maternal grandfather and nephew, Austin Barrick.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma with Pastor Mike Mitchell officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Clark, Verne DeVore, Cleve McCarty, Keith Story, Brian Silver, Dennis Naifeh, Bobby Story, Eddie Waldron, DeWayne Pence, Doc Harmon, Rory Wheeler, Terry Riddle, Lloyd Wheeler, Robin Phelps and James Dennis.
