L.E. "Gene" Loftis, a respected resident of Calera, Oklahoma passed from this life into the next in Durant, Oklahoma on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 9 days.

He was born in Durant, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 12, 1932 to John Thomas and Ethel I. Loftis.

Gene married Thelma Jo Ladd in Durant, Oklahoma on Friday, November 21, 1952.

Mr. Loftis served his community and country in the United States Army from March 1953 thru January 1955.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma and a dedicated volunteer for the Celebrate Recovery Program supported by his church.

He was constantly on the look for hidden treasures at garage sales, auctions and wherever he could find them, some may have called him a Junk Collector.

Gene enjoyed vegetable gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with his neighbors in Calera.

Mr. Loftis is survived by his wife, Thelma Jo Loftis of the home; sons, Jeffery E. Loftis and wife Debbie of White Oak, Texas and John M. Loftis and wife Deanne of White Oak, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda K. Loftis of Austin, Texas, Sarah K. Loftis of Austin, Texas, Taylor R. Burns of White Oak, Texas and Levi T. Loftis of White Oak, Texas.

Mr. Loftis was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Ethel Loftis; brothers, James Omar Loftis and Lewis "Bud" Loftis and sisters, Leota and Emily Loftis.

The family has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Salvation Army at 4302 Hwy 70 West, Durant, Oklahoma 74701 and/or the Celebrate Recovery Program s/o the First Baptist Church.

Family hour will be from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A funeral service in his honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Durant with Bro. James Robinson and Bro. Ronnie Ladd officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Loftis, John Loftis, Levi Loftis, Paul Ladd, Donald Lester and Fred Ward.
