Graveside services for Marion C. Haggard, 88, of Denison, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma.
Marion was born April 7, 1922 in Durant, Oklahoma to Ernest and Betty Haggard.
He married Frances Jean Walker on December 7, 1945. She passed away January 7, 1971.
Lt. Col. Marion C. Haggard {Retired} served 25 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of WWll {Pacific Theater} with the 532nd Amph. Regt. Marion participated in the battles of Lae, Finschaffen, Hollandia, Leyte, Mindora and Palawan and also served in the Korean War.
He was an active member of the V.F.W, American Legion, Woodmen of the World and D.A.V.
After retiring from the military, Marion built homes with his brother, Hugh, and actively traveled with an Air Stream club. Also, Marion volunteered his services to The Frontier Village in Denison for 20 years. He restored and maintained the buildings and grounds. Marion also coordinated fund raising events.
Survivors include his son, Maron and wife, Ann Haggard; daughter, Billie Jean Gilbert and husband, Bill and son, Robert Haggard; grandchildren, Adrienne, Adam, Jarvis and Jennifer and long-time companion Jan Tanner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
