Vernon Armstrong a resident of Durant, OK passed from this life in Sherman, TX on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the age of 92. Vernon was born in Roberta, OK to George Isaac and Mary Elberta (Stanford) Armstrong. He was blessed to be married twice in his lifetime first to Loueta Irene Caughey on, March 9, 1946 in Sherman, TX, then to Johnnie Mae Jones on, April 12, 1997 in Durant, OK.
Vernon served this country in the United States Army. He was an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance for many years. Vernon was a faithful, dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, he was always ready to help where needed, and he cherished his church family. He had a compassionate heart and spent many hours visiting the "old folks" at the nursing home. Vernon enjoyed cows and horses.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Vernon's memory to the Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his son, Robert Armstrong and wife Annette of Durant, OK; sister, Wilma Jean Brown of Denison, TX; grandson, Brandon Armstrong of Durant, OK.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Armstrong; 1st wife, Loueta Armstrong; 2nd wife, Johnny Mae Armstrong; and son, Larry Armstrong.
A church service in honor of Vernon's life will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 21st at the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant, OK with Bro. Darrell Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
