Fatal Accident

Walter Dalton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dalton, who live in the Mirabile neighborhood, was fatally injured Satuday afternoon, while discing oats ground for Fred Shafer, near Capron. Mr. Shafer noticed the team standing in the field and seeing no signs of the driver, he went over there and found the boy's mangled and unconscious form under the disc and the lines wound up so that the team could run no farther. The boy was taken to the Capron Hotel, and all that was possible was done for the poor boy. He was terribly mangled; the right leg was cut off above the knee, several ribs were broken on his left side, his head was badly injured and the entire body was badly scratched and bruised. The boy was conscious most of the time until death relieved him of his sufferings at about 30 minutes after midnight, but he could not tell how it happened. It appeared that Walter must have been oiling the disc when the team ran away, in some manner dragging him along, running perhaps about a quarter of a mile. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Capron cemetery. Walter was just past 21 years of age and well liked by his associates. The bereaved parents, brothers and sisters have the sympathy of many friends in their great loss.
