Funeral services for Jonna Marlyn Hines will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2022, at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Kirk officiating. Interment will be in the Capron Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Jonna Marlyn Hines, daughter of the late John Martin and Mary Adeline (Wells) Varner, was born August 4, 1949, in Pendelton, Oregon, and passed away September 8, 2022, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Jonna graduated from Alva High School, then received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Pittsburg State University. She worked at Share Medical Center and Share Home Health until she decided to explore the country by becoming a traveling nurse. On March 8, 1988, she was united in marriage to Charles L. Hines in Miami, Oklahoma. She retired in 2006.

She was a member of Alva Moose Lodge. She loved cooking, canning and baking. She was an accomplished writer, having several of her stories and poetry published. She enjoyed singing. She was quite the world traveler, having been to all 50 states and 19 European countries.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one daughter, Emily; two brothers, Larry Ging and Leroy Ging; and one sister, Judy King.

Jonna is survived by five sons: Chris Cunningham and wife Alissa (of Midland, Texas), Bruce Cunningham and wife Lisa (of Midland, Texas), John Cunningham and wife Michelle (of Alva), Mary Cunningham (of Midland, Texas), Victor Cunningham (serving with the U.S. Navy), and JereG Cunningham (of Alva); two brothers: John Varner Jr. and wife Marva (of Arkansas) and Jeffrey Varner and wife Karie (of Myers Flat, California).

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Jassinda Coakley (of Missouri), Marrisa Irvin (of Missouri), John Cunningham (of Washington), KatyLynn Cunningham (of Midland, Texas), Brett Cunningham (of Midland, Texas), James McDonald (of Alva), Elizabeth Burson and husband Casey (of Alva), Brittany Burson and husband Gary (of Alva), Branden Cunningham (of Alva); Kristina Young and husband Justin (of Pond Creek), Brianna Fragoza and husband Francisco (of Alva) and Shawn Thomas (of Texas); eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She wished to give special recognition to Kenneth Sellars for all the love and support during her illness.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
