Czech National Cemetery is located at the SE corner of S. Villa Ave. and SW 44th St. in Oklahoma City.

From the Oklahoma City area, take I-240 west to S. Pennsylvania Ave. {exit 1C}. Go north {right} on Pennsylvania Ave. 2 miles to SW 44st St. Turn left {west} and go 1/2 mile to S. Villa Ave. The cemetery is on the south side of SW 44th St.

This two acre square cemetery, now at SW 44 and Villa, was on the NW corner of 160 acres of farmland. The first person to be buried in this plot of ground was Anton and Katrina Blecha's little 9 month old daughter, who died in 1891. Using Czech names they deeded two acres as follows: Aulm Blecha and wife, Katei, of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, territory to Jacob Wadlech, Trustee, in trust for the use of the Society known as the Cesko Sloboncky Nordni Hrbytor of the City of Oklahoma in Oklahoma Territory for $100 for use of the said society as and for a cemetery or burial ground. The deed was filed January 20, 1894, in Book 9, page 587.

In 1907, the year Oklahoma became a state, this farm was six miles from the city and civilization. A 1957 canvass listed 179 names. In the center of the cemetery, lying on the ground is a six-foot granite piece with the names of Czechoslovakian veterans of U.S. wars. One time a driver lost control of his car and toppled many of the headstones, including the headstone of baby Blecha. A cedar tree that had been planted to mark her grave was later struck by lightning.
