November 20, 1938 _ January 17, 2024

Funeral services for G.W. Taylor will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma with Dr. Russell Duck and Reverend Steve Scott officiating. Burial will be in the South Persimmon Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Guy William Taylor was born on November 20, 1938 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Guy E. and Wilma Jane (Dickerson) Taylor. He was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Vici, surrounded by his family.

G.W. as he was fondly called was raised on the family farm east of Sharon, Oklahoma. He grew up helping his dad in all phases of their farming operation. He graduated with the class of 1957 at Sharon, Oklahoma. After spending his freshman year at Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Oklahoma, he enlisted in the Air Force. After completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, he was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, for a three year tour of duty. While in Anchorage he fell in love with Vera Allen, who became his beloved wife on December 30, 1961. They left Alaska in January 1962 and moved to Alva, Oklahoma, to continue their educations, where G.W. completed his B.A. degree in Education in 1964. In 1966, he earned his Master's Degree in Education and his Elementary Principal's Certificate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. After teaching three years in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, he and Vera moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to teach in the Clark County School District. They moved to the Vici community in 1968 where they established the family farm north of Vici.

Two sons were born to G.W. and Vera after their return to Oklahoma; Justin in 1968 and Bill in 1972. The boys went everywhere with their Dad, learning about various aspects of farming, especially the raising, fitting, and showing of registered show cattle. G.W. was a loving, unselfish, caring father, always putting his family first. Teaching his sons a tremendous work ethic; to always give a full day's work for a full day's pay was a priority for him. Laziness was not an acceptable trait for the boys. G.W. never sent his family to church-taking them every Sunday and Wednesday was another priority with him. G.W. was extremely proud of both Justin and Bill and the tremendous men they grew up to be and the many things they accomplished. He was proud of his daughters-in-law and the precious granddaughters they gave him. He loved to take the little girls feeding with him-always winding up at the quick stop for pop, candy, and Cheetos! He thoroughly enjoyed watching them play softball and basketball from elementary through high school.

He was ordained a deacon in the Vici Baptist Church in 1982 and served in that capacity at Vici as well as the First Baptist Church in Woodward. He depended on the Lord for everything, and he completely turned everything over to Him. G.W. loved his God, his family, and his chosen profession. He loved working with children and he made a positive difference in the lives of many children. He retired from education in 1990 after spending the last 23 years in the Vici School System.

G.W. was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Guy and Wilma Taylor, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Spencer and Edith Allen, and beloved sister Linda Cole. His wife, Vera preceded him also after nearly 50 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Garland Taylor, brother-in-law Theodore Halsey, and step-son Kevin Hildebrant.

God sent a special lady, Bobbie Hildebrant, for him to love and spend the rest of his earthly life with. G.W. and Bobbie were married on May 4, 2012 in Oklahoma City and they made their home in Woodward.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie, his two sons Justin and wife Melisa of Vici and Bill and his wife Brooke of Kingfisher; his four precious granddaughters, Holley Hofschulte and husband Nick, Sadie Key and husband Dakota, Bree and Britt Taylor; great-grandchildren: Kinley Harper, Hayslyn, and Will Hofschulte, Addison and Cooper Key; step-daughter, Renee Troxell and husband Ronnie of Oklahoma City; step-daughter-in-law, Patty Hildebrant; sister-in-law, Belva Taylor of Cache; his sisters Sonya Williams of Oklahoma City, and Trula Stevens and her husband Mike of Alva; his brother-in-law, Spence and wife Linda Allen of California; many nieces and nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vici FFA Program with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
