Charles Junior Loyd

Charles Junior Loyd, a 79-year-old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, January 8, 2024, at Prairie View Cemetery with Reverend Gene Karn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Charles Junior Loyd was born June 26, 1944, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Charlie Nute and Minnie May (Matthews) Loyd. Charles grew up in Pauls Valley and attended school at White Horse Elementary School in Pauls Valley. He was united into marriage to Mary Ellen Horne on April 24, 1965, in Heavener, Oklahoma. The couple then made their home in Hennessey, Oklahoma. The couple lived in various places throughout their marriage including Woodward, Enid, Kingfisher, Vici, and Canadian, Texas.

Charles worked as a mechanic in the oilfield most of his life. He often enjoyed making knives, working on cars, gardening, and doing yard work. Fishing, and hunting and playing jokes on people brought him the most joy. Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and great grandchildren is what he loved most of all.

Charles is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Loyd; two daughters, Deborah Denise Underhill, Vickie Eileen Lewis and husband John Kenneth Lewis II, one son, David Ray Loyd; six grandchildren, Patrick Wayne Underhill, Derek Lynn Underhill, Caleb Blake Lewis, Ocean Nicole Lewis, Alexander Scott Underhill, Jacob Harold Underhill; five great grandchildren, Sidney, Jason, Azazel, Aurora, and Alice; one brother, Dewayne Brim and wife Loretta; three sisters, Charlene Pipins, Ellen Whittet and husband David; Linda Ramsey and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Minnie Loyd, brothers Sherman Loyd and Melvin Loyd, sisters, Welda Nailon, Glenda Fay Boone, Donna June Hobbs, and Rita Gayle Aytes.
