Woodward, Okla. — Estell Steele 91 year old Woodward resident died Saturday June 12, 2010 in the Mooreland Heritage Manor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday June 15, 2010 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sheldon Riley officiating. Interment will follow in the North Persimmon Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Estell Mae Steele was born on January 31, 1919 in Sharon, Oklahoma the daughter of John Melvin and Hazel Caroline (Groce) Adams. Estell was reared on a farm near Sharon. At the age of 16 Estell's family moved to Mutual. She graduated from Mutual High School in 1937. Estell was united in marriage to John William Steele in July of 1949 and they made their home in Woodward. She owned and operated Estell's Beauty Shop until the late 1990's.
She attended the Elm Grove Assembly of God Church as a child. Estell later joined the Assembly of God Church in Woodward. She was active in many church activities including Sunday School.
Estell especially enjoyed being with her family, spending time outdoors, and going for a ride in the snow.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Adams of Woodward; niece, Elaine Adams of Woodward; and nephew Dr. Bobby Adams and wife Connie of Kirkland, Washington, great nieces and nephews, Christina Persall and husband Jake, John Crowell and wife Melissa, Matthew Crowell and wife Heather, Mark Crowell, Carli Hecker and husband Evan, and Sally Jo Adams; 11 great-great-nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother J. E. Adams.
