Donnie R. Clem, 84 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, October 31, 2016 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 in the First Baptist Church of Sharon. Burial will follow in the North Persimmon Cemetery, east of Sharon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Donnie Ray Clem was born on June 23, 1932 at the Woodward Hospital in Woodward, Oklahoma; he was the son of Linzy Edgar and Imo Dychie (Turner) Clem. Donnie attended grade school at Vici and graduated from Sharon High School in 1950. He attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Wichita State University. Donnie worked for Granny Williams Gas Station in Sharon before going to the United States Navy in 1951. He served his country and was honorably discharged in 1955. After his discharge he worked for Woodward Wholesale for about nine months.
He was united in marriage to Naomi Dorlene “Dollie” Guthrie on July 25, 1958 in Edmond, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Wichita, Kansas where Donnie worked for Boeing. In 1961 they moved back to Woodward and bought a TV shop and named it Clem’s TV. In 1975 Donnie went to work for Woodward Iodine and he was one of the first work crew members that helped build the plant. He retired from Woodward Iodine in 1995.
Donnie was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Sharon. He loved listening to Christian music, reading his Bible and studying prophecy. Donnie enjoyed gardening, watching the Oklahoma City Thunder, and spending time with his grandsons.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Dollie Clem of the home; one son Bill J Clem and wife Angela; two daughters: Beth Renee Miles, Kelli Hickman and husband Ronnie; one brother, Lionel Clem; one sister Sharon Bright and husband Ken; eight grandchildren: Micah Miles and Krystal, Jesse Miles, Andrew Hickman and Tanya, Jerod Miles, Austin Hickman and Samantha, Anthony Hickman, Brennon Clem and Blayze Clem; three great-grandchildren: Brody Miles, Brexten Miles, Stevie Ray Miles; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Linzy and Dychie Clem, sister-in-law, Ruth Clem, in-laws’s, Joe and Claudia Guthrie, and three beloved nephews: Mike Clem, Monty Clem, and Carter Guthrie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
