Woodward, Okla. — Joan Lockwood Miller, 86 year old Mooreland resident, died Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Mooreland. Interment will be in the Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Margaret Joan (Kay) Lockwood Miller was born on December 6, 1925 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to James Lawson and Maude Ann (Gore) Kay. Joan was reared in the Vici and Mooreland area and attended school there. She graduated from Mooreland High School in 1943. Joan was united in marriage to Tom Lockwood on September 5, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas. They made their first home in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Mooreland in 1947. They owned and operated the Corral Café in Mooreland until the mid-1950's. Joan went to work at Western State Hospital in Ft. Supply. She later worked at the Woodward Hospital as a Medical Transcriptionist for 17 years. She retired in 1973.
Joan was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mooreland. She enjoyed her Tuesday Bridge Club and visiting with her friends. Joan loved spending time with her family and especially her great-grandchildren.
Joan was married to Herman Miller in 1995. He preceded her in death in 1998. Joan was very fortunate to have wonderful neighbors who helped care for her during her illness.
She is survived by her son, Craig Lockwood and Molly of Mooreland; one daughter Lorie Patton and husband J.C. of Woodward; four grandchildren, Jason Razien of Austin, Texas, Denise Anderson and husband Rob of Norman, Kaleb Lockwood of Yukon, Gardner Lockwood and wife Tabetha of Mustang; four great-grandchildren, Ajay and Alyssa Anderson, Finley and Addison Lockwood; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom on January 14, 1990, three brothers and five sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
