Lawrence Wesley Kelso, 88 years of age, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his home north of Curtis, Oklahoma after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mooreland Cemetery. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence was born to Dirl and Elsie (Vanderslice) Kelso on August 21, 1928. He first attended a country school located north of the family farm and, when the family moved to Quinlan, Lawrence finished his schooling there. He then began farming full-time with his father.

Lawrence soon met the love of his life, Stella Marie Bishop of Woodward. They were married February 6, 1954 at Woodward. Lawrence and Stella lived in Mooreland until 1959 when they moved to Quinlan where Lawrence continued to farm and run cattle. The couple was blessed with a son, Wesley, and a daughter, Yvonne.

Lawrence was a great dad who was devoted to his kids and what they were doing. He enjoyed taking the family to numerous stock shows and many junior rodeos in the area. During this time, Lawrence worked at the Seiling and Woodward livestock auctions in addition to his own farming and ranching operation.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Stella, a sister, Hazel Fern Ritter, his children, Wesley Kelso and Yvonne Long and husband Jack. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Dusty Kelso and wife Sheila, Berk Long, Abbie Long, Travis Long and wife Carrie, Whitney Long, Lacey Hailey and husband Nick, Krista Spruell and husband Hunter, and seven great-grandchildren, Paisley Kelso, Brody Hailey, Grayson Hailey, Jaycie Spruell, Rowdy Spruell, Laney Spruell, Amelia Long; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bill Wesley, and a sister Loretta Wyckoff.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer"s Research with the Billings Funeral Home accepting the contributions.
