The funeral for Chester "Chet" Cornelius Dauphin, 92, of Mooreland, will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Mooreland. The Rev. David Mercer will officiate. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home, Mooreland. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1916, on the Dauphin homestead northwest of Quinlan to Max Million and Cora Shaw Dauphin and died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Woodward Regional Hospital.
He was raised on the Dauphin homestead and attended Enterprise Country School north of Mooreland.
He married Mary "Evelyn" Russell July 1, 1935, in Woodward. They made their home on the family homestead where he helped his father farm and harvest. He also worked for John Gardner and Jim Callaway. In 1937, he began work for J.O. Selman on the Easterwood Ranch. In 1938, he went to work for the Eversole Ranch near Chimney Rock. In 1942, he left the Eversole Ranch and started his own ranch. They moved into Mooreland in 1974, where he drove a school bus for Mooreland Public Schools for 25 years. He was a member of Church of God near Chimney Rock. He was named 2000 "Honored Old Cowhand" at the Freedom Rodeo and was a member of Waynoka, Woodward, Vici, Shattuck and Mooreland Roundup clubs.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry Dauphin, Dean Dauphin and Monte Dauphin, all of Mooreland; two daughters, Lynda Munsell of Belen, N.M., and Mary Weder of Mooreland; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn on May 14, 1988, two sons, one brother and two sisters.
