Woodward, Okla. — Gary Collier 78 year old Mooreland resident died Tuesday November 22, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday November 26, 2011 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward with the Reverend Junior Zollinger officiating. Military Graveside Honors will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday November 25, 2011 at the Billings Funeral Home in Woodward from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Gary Duane Collier was born on April 23, 1933 in Mooreland, Oklahoma the son of Delbert Townes and Vaudeth Viola (Miller) Collier. Gary was reared in Mooreland where he attended school and graduated from Mooreland High School in 1951. Gary then enrolled at Oklahoma A&M graduating with his bachelors degree in 1955. He then entered the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Gary was united in marriage to Audrey Mae Yokem on August 23, 1953 in Stillwater, Oklahoma where they made their home. After thirty years of service Gary retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army. Following the loss of their daughter Deborah Marie in 1980 Gary and Audrey returned to Mooreland and have remained there since that time.
Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mooreland.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite hobbies was riding his bike and on any given day could be seen riding between Mooreland and Woodward. Gary recorded more than 150,000 miles of riding and once a month would take a 100 mile ride. He also spent time talking to young people about his military career and sharing his experiences in the military with them.
He is survived by his wife Audrey of the home; one son, David Collier of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Elizabeth Collier of Oklahoma City, Rebecca Schoff and husband Lawrence of Mooreland, Mary (Dana) Leach and husband Bret of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua, and Jerusha Schoff, and Abigail Leach; one sister, Colette Pantelone and husband Ralph of Mooreland; one brother, Gilbert Collier and wife Verna of Albuquerque, NM; several nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter, Deborah Marie, and mother and father-in-law.
