Memorial: 1:30 PM Saturday, May 9th, 2015 - First United Methodist Church of Woodward
Jerry W. Rizley, 80 year old Woodward Attorney, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Woodward Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Jerry Wallace Rizley was born August 13, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; he was the son of Ross and Ruby Seal Rizley. He grew up in Guymon, Oklahoma and Washington D.C. Jerry graduated from Guymon High School in 1952. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1952 through 1956. Jerry was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Medal. Following his time in the service, he returned to Oklahoma to get his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Oklahoma.
On November 2, 1957 he was married to Margaret Gammill at the McFarland United Methodist Church in Norman. They made their home in Norman until graduation and they moved to Oklahoma City in 1962 where Jerry served as Judge Alfred P. Murrah’s Federal Judicial law clerk for one year. Jerry and Margaret moved to Woodward in August of 1963 and he joined the law firm of Sparks and Boatman. Jerry served as City Attorney and served on the Woodward Board of Education from 1976 to 1983.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodward and taught the Cokesbury class for many years and also sang in the choir. He had been a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the VFW. He served on the Kids Inc. Board and the Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum Board. He enjoyed playing golf, tennis and going fishing. He loved spending time with family and friends. He retired in December of 2013 after 50 years practicing law in Woodward and had been awarded his 50 year pin at the Woodward Bar luncheon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mark Gammill Rizley, three brothers, Robert Rizley, Max Rizley, Quinton Rizley, two sisters, Elaine Rizley Camp, Hortense Rizley Barrere.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Rizley of Woodward; two children, Becky Lotspeich and husband Troy of Rosston, David Rizley and wife Suzanne of Castle Rock, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Amber Mills and husband Jared of Edmond, Justin Lotspeich of Rosston, Jason Lotspeich and wife Crystal of Enid, Joshua Lotspeich of Enid, Cindy Rizley of Round Rock, Texas, Shane Rizley and wife Shelley of Round Rock, TX; Kate Rizley and Nicole Rizley of Castle Rock, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Skyler, Katelyn, and Riley Rizley and one sister Lamoyne Rizley Cox of San Antonio, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the American Red Cross with the funeral home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
