Florence “Oney” Andrews, 93 year old Rosston resident, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in Woodward. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
Florence “Oney” Mildred (Wolf) Andrews was born on the Ditch Valley family farm near Rosston, Oklahoma, March 26, 1922 to Ralph and Esther (Williams) Wolf. She had three older sisters; Iola, Alene, and Louise. She spent her life there milking cows and farming. She attended Star Valley country school through the eighth grade and attended high school at Englewood, Kansas. She was valedictorian of her graduating class. She married Joe Van Cleve Andrews May 29, 1939 in Englewood, Kansas. They were parents to two children; Joyce Mildred and Dennis Van Cleve. They purchased a farm in Ditch Valley in 1942 when Joe was in the Army Air Corp. It was located adjacent to her parents’ farm (Ralph and Esther Wolf). Oney and Joe operated a dairy from 1952 to 1971. They continued to raise alfalfa and wheat.
In 1959, Oney organized and sponsored “Teen Town” every other Saturday night at the Ditch Valley Club House (the Star Valley School House). Often, as many as eighty teens from the area would come to socialize and dance to the latest rock and roll songs. She ran a tight ship...there was no drinking and once you went out your were required to leave.
She was very active in the community. She attended the Rosston Methodist Church, Ditch Valley Community Club and spent hours at the Englewood Boutique thrift store. In 2007 she moved to an assisted-living facility called Providence Place in Woodward. In 2013 she moved to Grace Living Center, also in Woodward where she died.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and her daughter, Joyce Mildred (Andrews) Blewett.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Van Cleve Andrews and wife Pam of Gate; granddaughters, Barbi and Dennis Towne of Albuquerque, NM; Becky Andrews of Albuquerque, NM; Dr. Belinda Andrews and great-grandson, Blaine Andrews of Woodward; Jennifer Wallace and husband Scott of Orcas Island, WA; son-in-law, Jim Blewett of Phoenix, AZ; other family and friends.
