Billy McFarland, 87 year old Mooreland resident, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 at his home. A family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Billy Ben McFarland was born April 18, 1937 on the family farm south of Mooreland, Oklahoma to loving parents, Verne and Nina (Garten) McFarland. He attended Oak Grove School from 1943-1944 and graduated from Mooreland High School with the class of 1957.
He was inducted into the United States Army in 1959. While in the service he met and married Betty Coleman on March 25, 1961 in Garthersbury, Maryland. They had triplets and one of them passed away after a few hours. They were blessed with Francis and Roger at this time. Billy served his country and was honorably discharged in 1962. After his discharge, they moved back to Mooreland and were blessed with a son, Verne and twin girls Gail and Lynn.
Billy worked several jobs around Woodward and he built homes in Woodward and cabins at Boiling Springs. He was a cattleman, farmer and continued farming and working cattle until his retirement, even though he never really retired. Billy loved working on International Super C tractors, but always had a hard time finding parts. His favorite times were spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Francis McFarland of Mooreland, Roger McFarland of Mooreland, Verne McFarland of Kirkland, Washington, Gail McFarland of Perkins, Lynn Meigs of Seiling; three grandchildren: Alan Meigs and wife Brandie of El Reno, Karl Meigs and wife Candy of Weatherford, Rikki Rene of Stillwater; seven great-grandchildren: Kyleigh and Kelci Beurschmitt, Alexyss and Gabriel Martinez, Lizben and Reese Meigs, Reed Meigs; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Billy, his parents, his wife Betty, one brother Vernon "Bud" McFarland and three sisters: Altha May Cleveland of Kirkland, Washington, Darlene Rittenhouse of Midland, Texas, Bennita Eoff of Arvada, Colorado and son-in-law, Bob Meigs of Seiling.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home for funeral expenses.
