Cy Young, 64 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at his home in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Cy Clayton Young was born on December 10, 1955 in Mooreland, Oklahoma to Glen and Beverly Young Wells. Cy was raised in Aspen, Colorado and Mooreland and graduated from Mooreland High School. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Cy was united in marriage to Melinda Sue Swartfager on August 24, 1991 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Woodward.
He worked for the William S. Key Correctional Facility for many years, the Woodward Iodine Plant and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Cy loved watching football, especially OU games and the Denver Broncos and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church but grew up in the Baptist Church.
Cy is survived by one son, Chase Young and wife Heather of Bremerton, Washington; one daughter Emily Young of Fairview; three grandchildren: Kinley Butterfield, Cole Young, and Logan Pritchard-Young; his mother Beverly Wells of Mooreland; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad and his loving wife Melinda Young.
