Jimmy Don Witt, 76 year old Woodward area resident, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Mooreland Heritage Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with the Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force.
Jimmy Don Witt was born on February 6, 1939 at the family home in Carter, Oklahoma to Joseph Oscar and Nora (Blankenship) Witt. Don grew up in Carter and attended school at Carter. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country before being honorably discharged in 1964 with the rank of Aircraft Mechanic. He was united in marriage to Gloria Jeanette Maxey in Carter, Oklahoma. They were blessed with four children, Donnie, Jimmie, Becky, and Jennifer. Don worked at Republic Gypsum and the MK&T Railroad and the family traveled a lot during the 1960's and 1970's. The family moved to Woodward in 1975 and Don worked as a Truck Driver for Tidwell until 1985. He continued working until his retirement in 2001.
He was united in marriage to Billie Jo Wood Taylor on April 20, 1979 in Canadian, Texas. They made their home in Woodward and have lived there since that time. Don enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and family, watching NASCAR, watching westerns, and watching football. He took great pride in his yard and he was always giving back to his community. Don would rebuild bicycles for children and loved seeing the joy that it gave them. He loved his animals, especially his dog Penny.
He was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church and was baptized at a young age in a creek by the Carter First Baptist Church. Don was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW of Woodward.
He is survived by his mother, Nora Witt; wife Billie Witt of the home; children, Donnie Witt and Freda; Jimmie Witt and Mike Bull; Becky Anderson and Bubba; Jennifer Pisonero and Steve; Debbie Goree and James; one sister Nettie Sue Watson; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Oscar Witt, brother-in-law, Darrel Watson, son, Kenneth Taylor, son-in-law, Rick Jackson, granddaughter, Paula Anderson and daughter Cherry Burns.
