Billie Witt, 81 year old resident of the Mooreland Heritage Manor and a Woodward native went to meet her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 25, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Billie Jo (Wood) Witt was born in Comanche, Texas on August 22, 1934 to William Troy and Lucy (Boynton) Wood. After moving and being raised in Portales, New Mexico, she graduated from Portales High School. Billie attended Eastern New Mexico University. She married her high school sweetheart, Claude Jerry Taylor on February 13, 1955. After their first child, Cherry was born, Jerry joined the Amerada Company and they traveled around the country working. While they were living in Minot, North Dakota, their second child, Kenneth was born. Their third child Debbie was born in Greensburg, Kansas during the move to Alva, Oklahoma. Billie and Jerry raised their family in Alva until Jerry’s untimely death on January 17, 1971.

Billie worked for Share Medical Center from 1966 to 1979, starting as a dietary cook and later becoming a certified dietary manager. In 1979, Billie and her daughter Debbie moved to Woodward.

Billie met the love of her life Jimmy Don Witt, and they were married on April 20, 1979 in Canadian, Texas. They made their home in Woodward and have lived there since that time. Billie worked at various places including the Mooreland Hospital, Woodward Nursing Center, and the Woodward Hospital. She retired from the Woodward Hospital as a Certified Dietary Technician when she was 65 years of age. After her retirement, Billie traveled with Jimmy as he was driving cross country. Billie enjoyed traveling with her husband, loved reading and cooking, especially baking at Christmas time for her family. She loved being a Granny to all her grandkids and neighborhood kids. There wasn’t a child she didn’t love.

Billie was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. She volunteered at the Woodward Hospital and was also a member of the Moose Lodge. After her son passed, she organized the first support group called Northwest Oklahoma Aids support group in 1989.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lucy and Troy Wood; two brothers, TR Wood, and Jimmy Wood; her first husband, Jerry Taylor; son Kenneth Taylor; daughter, Cherry Burns; son in law, Rick Jackson; granddaughter Paula Anderson; her precious dog Penny and her love , her husband Jimmy Don Witt.

Her survivors who love and will miss her are her daughter Debbie Goree and husband James; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; step children, Donnie Jo Witt, Jimmy Witt, Becky Stolzy and Jennifer Pisonero; sister Frona Jane Jones; many more nieces, nephews, other relatives and family friends.
