Woodward--Dr. Wilbur Galen Whiteneck was born May 6, 1912 to John Samuel and Cora Lee (Beard) Whiteneck near Aline, Oklahoma. He graduated from Washington University Dental School in St. Louis in 1936; he practiced dentistery for five years before joining the military. He spent the next five years as a dentist in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He met Virginia C. Leipart while stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonio and they were married there on June 2, 1943. Wilbur and Virginia made their home in Woodward for 43 years and Wilbur practiced dentistry for 40 of those years.
Wilbur loved the outdoors and ranched for many years in Harper County on Sand Creek Ranch. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church and was a Charter Member of the Woodward Rotary Club.
Wilbur died Friday, July 14, 1995 in Oklahoma City at the age of 83.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Virginia; one daughter Jean and one granddaughter, Eleanor Isaacs, all of Oklahoma City; three borthers, John S. Whiteneck, Beaverton, Oregon, Rhonald A. Whiteneck, Norman; Elden T. Whiteneck, Sarcoxie, Missouri; one sister, Jennie Newton of Waynoka.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Linda Gale, age 3 and Jan Marie, age 19, both lost to Cystic Fibrosis
