Darlene Giles Westenhaver was born in Compton California to Jeanette McIlravy and Gus Giles on April 1st,1938. The fourth child of the family, Darlene enjoyed and shared life with one sister and two brothers as well as her Grandmother Jenny. The home was filled with music on a regular basis and Darlene started violin lessons at the young age of 3 yrs. She also talked fondly about the music her family created together playing Mandoline, Bagpipes, Guitar and Violin. They even played for local community events.

Upon the untimely death of her mother, Darlene went to Borger, Texas to live with her father, Gus Giles and stepmother, Polly Giles. While still in High School she fell in love with her lifetime soulmate that was working at the Phillips Petroleum plant, Bob Westenhaver. They married on June 2nd of 1956. To this marriage, two children were born, Mary Louise and James William..

Eventually the family moved to Webb, OK to assist Bob's parents with the family farm. Darlene had never lived on a farm before, and found it to be quite an adventure. She learned to plant gardens, pick cotton and avoid coyotes and snakes..

From Webb, OK they eventually moved to Perryton Texas for a short time and then to Woodward, OK in 1962. After moving to Woodward, a third child was born, Ronald Lee. It was also during this time in Woodward that Darlene and her husband, Bob, eventually opened Westenhaver Concrete Construction.

Years later, with all of the children now attending school, Darlene worked at TG&Y, offered housekeeping services for working moms and the Del Camino Hotel. She eventually worked at the American Red Cross Blood Depot inside the Woodward Hospital. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother and an American Red Cross Swimming Instructor.

Darlene was a member of St John's Episcopal Church in Woodward, OK. She loved helping with the Altar Guild and many events.

One of her greatest joys was when her grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah, Shannon, Jesse and Nick were born. She could talk for hours about them and thought she could never love anyone else as much as them. But God widened her heart and along came great- grandchildren Kiersten, Aidan, Liam, Christian, Camden, Anstasia, Zandra, Memphis, Lyric and Ember.. Again, God was not finished amazing Darlene. In June of 2025 Darlene was able to meet and hold her great-great-grandson Rowan. Five generations of family was achieved twice in her lifetime.
