James "Jim" Collins Weems

February 7, 1951 - April 22, 2023

DODGE CITY - James "Jim" Collins Weems died April 22, 2023, at Trinity Manor in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born on February 7, 1951, the son of John Wylie Sr. and Thelma (Robertson) Weems in Memphis, Tennessee.

Jim was proud to be an Air Force brat who lived in many places, including Tennessee, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Japan. He graduated from Ardmore High School, Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Eventually he earned his Commercial Driver's License and loved to drive a rig over the road for many years. He retired from Kindsvater Trucking in Dodge City. Jim found joy as a volunteer of Kairos Prison Ministry for several years while living in Enid, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Jim Weems, Hoxie, Kansas, and Steve Owens, Indiana; 3 daughters, Misti McCreary, Fort Worth, Texas, Delana Whisenhunt, Dodge City, Kansas, and Kristen Tinoco, Garland, Texas; 3 brothers, John Wylie Weems Jr., Florida, Lee Weems, Texas, and Steve Weems, Oklahoma; one sister, Sharon Erikson, Missouri; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Sandra Weems, and his father, John Weems Sr.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward, Oklahoma, where he will be inurned next to his beloved wife, Sandra. There will be no public viewing, as cremation has taken place.

The family suggests memorials to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801. Condolences may be sent to www.zieglerfuneralchapel.com.
