Graveside: 10:00 AM Friday, July 11th, 2014 - Elmwood Cemetery

Ben O. Washburn, Jr. 89 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Grace Living Center in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Mary Davis officiating. The United States Army will provide military graveside rites. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ben Oscar Washburn was born on September 26, 1924 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Ben Oscar and Iva E. (West) Washburn. He was reared in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1943. Ben was inducted into the United States Army in 1943 and served in the Infantry. He earned numerous medals including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He honorably served his country until 1946 when he was honorably discharged.

He worked for BP Amoco as a Pumper until his retirement in 1986. Ben was united in marriage to Ellen LaVon Adams LaDue on January 21, 1978 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Shattuck before moving to Woodward in 2004.

Ben was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church. He enjoyed golfing, OU football, and traveling. Ben loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula LaDue McIntosh and husband Kent, Peggy LaDue Rovig and husband Joe; three grandchildren, Jeremy McIntosh and wife Bari, Anna McIntosh, Meghan Rovig; three great-grandchildren, Taytum LaDue, Paige Hadley, Reese Oakley; one sister, Betty Smith and husband Elred and their daughters Diane Smith and Sandra Staves and her three children, Cassandra, Samantha and James; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife LaVon on January 29, 2013.

Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Episcopal Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
