Harold Dean Wanger was born January 9,1934 in Mooreland, OK to Elvin and Edna (Devous) Wanger. He started 1st grade in a one room school near Freedom, OK, then the family moved to Buffalo, Gage, and settled southwest of Fort Supply where he graduated school with the class of 1953. Due to an illness and knee surgery Harold missed a year of school so he ended up in the same class as his younger sister Lily. Harold was active in FFA, raised Berkshire hogs and won many awards at the fairs.
On May 20th 1953, Harold married his high school sweetheart Bonnie Mae Triplett, at her parents' home in Harper County. On that same day Harold also graduated from high school.
Harold and Bonnie began their farm and ranch operation raising cattle, hogs and farming. Harold partnered with Wilbur Drake to start Wanger and Drake Construction doing dirt and backhoe work. They had one of the first backhoes in the area and did a lot of work. They also did custom wheat harvesting, including their own wheat in Woodward, Harper and Ellis County then taking the road north many summers reaching as far as Montana. Harold hired many high school boys for the harvest run. At the arrival of the field they could unload, set up and be cutting in 30 minutes. Harold shared that over the years he only had to send one boy home.
In 1978 Harold expanded into the trucking business hauling cattle. Jack Branstetter, Dale and Harold hauled lots of cattle many miles.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting in Colorado with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching his family: Dale, Kirby and Casey race cars along with nephews, Gary Deweese, Justin Yauk and cousin Steven Deweese. Watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in any of their activities was a pleasure also. Harold was proud and liked to brag on them.
Harold and Bonnie were a fantastic TEAM! So many things done and many successes with endless memories. They were blessed with superior employees and family that helped them achieve their dreams and expectations. Harold took great pride and honor being a board member for The Stock Exchange Bank for 30 years.
Harold is survived by his son and daughter in law Dale and Jan, grandchildren Kirby & Melissa Wanger, Casey & Brendon Gemmill. Great Grandchildren Luke & Lane Wanger and Jace & Cali Mae Gemmill, Sister In Law Ethel Nelson, Brother In Law Don Neill and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
