Kenneth Gilbert Vassar

Kenneth G. Vassar Sr., 85 of Woodward, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Faith United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Ware officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Kenneth Gilbert Vassar Sr. was born October 2, 1937 to George and Irene (Howard) Vassar in Laverne, Oklahoma. After Kenneth graduated from Woodward High School in 1955 he worked various jobs until he purchased Dairy Queen in 1961. Later he became a rural letter carrier and State Steward until his retirement in 2003. He was president of the Oklahoma Rural Letter Carriers Association for many years. After retirement Kenneth enjoyed spending time with family, farming and going to auctions. In 1956, Kenneth married Lyndell (Ball) Vassar and together they had three children: Kenneth Vassar Jr, Terry Vassar, and Vicky Eckels. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Vassar, in-laws, Willard and Stella Ball, brother and sister-in-law, George and Delphenia Vassar, brother-in-law, Bill Long and great-granddaughter Naomi Eckels. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lyndell Vassar, sons: Kenneth Vassar Jr and wife Rhonda, Terry Vassar and wife Lisa; daughter, Vicky Eckels, all of Woodward; sisters Joy Long, Carol Campbell and husband Jerry; grandchildren: Heather Talley and husband Kenny, Mandy Sunderland and husband Trent, Kyla Wages and husband Josh, Shala Vanaki and husband Nick, Jeremy Vassar and wife Brenna, Kendall Smith and husband Michael, Doug Eckels and wife Sara, Kacie Barnes and husband Michael, Darren Eckels and wife Kami, Ashley Eckels; 22 great-grandchildren: other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
