Crockett VanLandingham, 88 year old Woodward resident, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at his home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ed Dowty officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Floyd Crockett VanLandingham was born on October 17, 1936 in Valliant, Oklahoma to George and Edith (Teague) VanLandingham. When Crockett was in the ninth grade they moved to Pickett, Oklahoma where he attended Vanoss High School. He played basketball and baseball. He was a member of the FFA and was the Vice President of his class.
He enlisted in the National Guard and became a Sgt-E5 before being honorably discharged in 1956. Crockett was united in marriage to Betty Lahann on September 1, 1981 in Clayton, New Mexico. They made their home in Woodward.
Crockett bought a dozer and a truck and started his own company called Cat's Inc. He worked in the oilfield most of his life.
Crockett loved playing his guitar and banjo and singing with his family. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. He wrote a few songs and went to Nashville and recorded them on a record album.
He was preceded in death by his parents George Aubrey VanLandingham and Edith Gross, his wife Betty VanLandingham, sisters Nancy McDaniel and Audrey Lee VanLandingham, both of Ada, and Alta Power of Idabel.
He is survived by sons: Ronnie VanLandingham and wife Reene of Woodward, Mike VanLandingham and wife Frances of Lexington; daughter, Freda Witt and husband Donnie of Westminister, Colorado; one brother George VanLandingham of Blanchard; one sister Mary Patten and husband Frank of Stonewell; brother-in-law, Jerry McDaniel of Ada; grandchildren: Brandon VanLandingham and wife Patricia of Yukon, Crissy Matlock and husband Jerod of Owasso, Jacy Wylie and husband Eric of Tuttle, Kim Hardwick and husband Brian of Colorado, Joseph Witt and wife Kirsten of Colorado, Heather Higgins and husband Stephen of Colorado; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
