The funeral for Francis Lee Valentine, 88, formerly of Woodward will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Woodward. The Rev. Tony Barros will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home.
He was born April 27, 1919, near Belva to Lee G. and Elsie Mae Hoffman Valentine and died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, in Oklahoma City.
He attended Vonton schools and graduated from Sharon High School in 1937. He worked for Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), later to become Agricultural Stablization and Conservation Service. He served in the Army Air Corps from December 1942 to December 1945 in the South Pacific. After his military service, he rejoined Department of Agriculture with Woodward County A.S.C.S. He retired in 1979 as the executive director of Woodward County A.S.C.S. with over 40 years of service.
He married Lyndell E. Drake May 3, 1940, in Sayre. They made their home in Woodward until moving to Oklahoma City in 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church; Woodward Chamber of Commerce; B.P.O.E.; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1335; He was on the board of directors of Plains Indians and Pioneers Historical Foundation and a charter member of Historical Fort Supply Foundation.
Surviving are his wife Lyndell, of the home; one son, Monte Valentine of Shawnee; one daughter, Lana Derrick of Lawton; two sisters, Reva Feese of Woodward and Joanna Owen of Charleston, W. Va.; one brother Millard Valentine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Plains Indians and Pioneers Historical Foundation or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, cancer division.
