Lula Bell "Lu" Stutzman

Lu Stutzman, 84 year old Woodward resident, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the Bible Baptist Church with Reverend Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Lulu Bell Stutzman was born on December 15, 1936 at the Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Ralph Levi and Helen Katherine (Jacoby) Barnes. Lu grew up in Gage and graduated from Gage High School in 1955. She received her RN degree from the Halstead School of Nursing in 1958. Lu was united in marriage to Don Stutzman on September 13, 1958 at the Halstead Methodist Church in Halstead, Kansas. Together the couple made their first home in Newton, Kansas before moving to Mooreland, Oklahoma. Lu worked at the Mooreland Hospital for a short time before the family moved to Woodward and she started working at the Woodward Hospital. For 29 years she worked at the Woodward Hospital. During her free time, she was an excellent cook, forever known for her Chocolate Sheet Cake, and Red Hot Jell-O. Lu was a gifted seamstress and quilter, dabbling in all forms knitting, crochet, and needlepoint. After retiring from the hospital, she continued to work part time as a private RN, assisted at the local doctors' clinics and at Providence Place.

She was a devoted and loving mother and wife who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren endlessly. Together she and Don attended the Bible Baptist Church. In addition to an already full life, she was also a member of the Friendship Quilters Guild and the Knit Wits, and the Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Don Stutzman, her children: one daughter Donna "Michelle" Evans and husband Mike of Woodward; one son Scott Stutzman and wife Tammy of Moore; grandchildren: Brent Barker, Brandon Barker, Amber Barker, Tiffany Stutzman, and Steven Stutzman; great-grandchildren: Shane Barker, Ky'Aunna Critten, Emma Critten, Jonah Critten, and Myra Belle Rivera; one brother, Russell C. Barnes and wife Ethyl of Anna, Texas; three sisters, Helen Yvonne Larkin and husband Jim of Commerce, Rosetta Loomis and husband Richard of Woodward, Oklahoma, Joy Donna Price and husband Ike of North Georgia; sister-in-law, Freda Barnes Cooper of Cassville, Missouri; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Lu was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her big brother Levi Barnes.

The family request she be remembered for her honest smile, infectious laughter, and the warmth of her heart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
