Billy Lee Stout, 90 year old Woodward resident, died Friday, January 26, 2018 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Army providing military rites.
Billy Lee Stout was born on January 1, 1928 in the Haskew Community, Oklahoma; he was one of six children born to William Charles and Opal Vulva (White) Stout. The family moved to the farm near Tangier when Bill was young and he attended Tangier schools. He graduated from Tangier High School in 1947. Bill attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with his degree in Auto Mechanics in 1950. On March 1, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Elsie Mae Elliott in Woodward, Oklahoma. Soon after their marriage, Bill was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served his country during the Korean War and earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
After his discharge, Bill returned to Woodward. He went to work for Williams Chevrolet as a Mechanic and worked there for 11 years. He then went to work for B.J. Services as a Mechanic and continued working with them until his retirement in 1983. Since Bill was one of those guys that could not sit still he went to work for Bosch Electric and worked until they closed in the 1990's.
Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and hunting in his younger years. His granddaughters were his pride and joy, he loved them dearly and enjoyed going to all of their activities. He was so proud of them and would talk about them anytime he was given a chance.
He is survived by one son, Bruce Stout and wife Tamara of Woodward; two granddaughters, Kara Chitty and husband Brian; Maleah Albright and husband Jeff; two sisters-in-law, Marian Stout of Woodward; Donna Hunt of Odessa, Texas; one brother-in-law, Marvin Pohl of Topeka, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Elsie, one sister, Evelyn and four brothers, Marvin, Charlie, Leslie Joe, and Herb.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Diabetes research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
