Kay Steele, 78 year old Woodward resident, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Elmwood Cemetery with Reverend Janet Fitz officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The funeral will be broadcast on the funeral home Facebook page.
Karlyn Kay (Fitz) Steele was born on June 2, 1942 in Wellington, Kansas to William Jacob and Margaret Anna (Phillippi) Fitz. Kay grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1961. She was united in marriage to Jesse Steele in 1961 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two daughters: Charmaine and Charlotte.
She worked at her family owned flower shop for many years as a floral designer. Her family and friends at the flower shop meant the world to her. Kay loved her family and she enjoyed singing, music and cooking. When Kay was younger she worked at Brecklin Variety and the Woodward Hospital. Kay was a joy to be around and would always help in anyway she could.
She is survived by her sisters: Judy Steele and husband Charles of Piedmont, Janet Fitz of Woodward; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Robin Hammer and Jesse, Mark Steele and Jorita, Mike Steele and Dawn; six great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-nephew; other relatives and many friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Margaret Fitz, her brother Ronnie Fitz, and her two daughters, Charmaine Maupin and Charlotte Sheffield.
