Steven Smith, 57, of Norman passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 18, 1958 in Woodward, Oklahoma. His parents were Kenneth R. Smith and Allene G. Smith of Woodward. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodward.
Steve grew up in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1976. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied engineering. Steve worked in construction for many years and supervised and planned projects in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Most of his time was spent working on building and renovating schools in Oklahoma.
Steve was an avid OU sports fan, following the Sooners with an enthusiasm he picked up from his parents. He was interested in music and collected many guitars and amplifiers and other instruments, teaching himself to play and enjoying it throughout his life.
Steve was predeceased by his parents and his beloved grandmother, Hazel Wells of Woodward. He is survived by his sister Karen Churchill and her husband Arthur of Searcy, Arkansas, his sister Jaynie Smith, of Oklahoma City, his brother Dennis Smith and his wife Ann of Norman, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman on Saturday, December 19, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Another memorial service is being held in Woodward, Oklahoma, at a later date and Steve will be laid to rest next to his parents in Woodward Cemetery.
