F.W. Shuyler, age 90, of Woodward, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 10, 1934, in Fort Supply, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Fred and Ilene (Hurst) Shuyler.
F.W. graduated from Selman High School near Buffalo, Oklahoma in 1952. Shortly after, on July 12, 1952, he married the love of his life, Jeannetta Ann McMahon of Woodward. Together, they shared 72 wonderful years of marriage and raised four children: Gayla Shuyler of Woodward, Oklahoma; Sabrina (Shuyler) Jones and her husband Mike Jones of Sharon, Kansas; Terry Shuyler of Vici, Oklahoma; and Nathan Shuyler and his wife Rebecca (Johnson) Shuyler of Mutual, Oklahoma.
A man of many talents and a strong work ethic, F.W. held various occupations throughout his life, including roles as a salesman, construction worker, electrical apprentice, carpenter and milkman. He also served his community as a delivery driver for the Daily Oklahoman and Woodward News, and later for the Woodward Public Schools nutrition program. In his later years, he was a bus driver for the Woodward Senior Center, where he continued to touch the lives of many.
F.W.'s passions included fishing, woodworking, tinkering, and playing cards. He and Jeannetta spent many late nights playing cards with Ronald and Marlene Miller. His love for the outdoors and simple pleasures brought joy to all who knew him. With his passing, his family believes there was a collective sigh of relief from all the fish in Oklahoma.
A devout Christian, F.W. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. He found great joy in worship and was a dedicated member of the church choir, where his voice uplifted many. He especially enjoyed greeting and seating church members every Sunday as they arrived for service.
He is survived by his cherished grandchildren: Chanda (Jones) Bush and her husband Tanner Bush; Micha (Jones) Werner and her husband Brad Werner; and Olivia Shuyler. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Lacey Jones, Colton Bush, Carson Bush, Rhett Werner, Bryson Werner, and Gracen Werner.
F.W. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jeannetta Ann; his sister Pearline Harris and her husband Wilbur Harris; mother-in-law Olive Fowler and fathers-in-law Alvin Fowler and Earnest McMahon; brothers-in-law Sonny Fowler, Bobby Fowler, Donnie Fowler, David Janow, Ernie McMahon, and Vestal Hale; and sisters-in-law Wanda Merchant, Alice Hale, Ellen Brumley, Georgette Fowler, and Midge Fowler, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Ronnie Fowler, Danny Fowler, Jimmy Fowler and his wife Brenda Fowler, and Jack Merchant; sisters-in-law Alvina Janow, Sandy Fowler, Diana Fowler, Donna Hamlet, and Barbara Keller and her husband Steve Keller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Billings Funeral Home in Woodward, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating F.W.'s life will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward, Oklahoma, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Woodward, in honor of his generous spirit and commitment to community service.
F.W. Shuyler will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His warmth, wisdom, and kindness leave a lasting legacy.
