Merle Shore, 82 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, March 20, 2017 in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gary Williams officiating. Funeral Honors will be provided by the Woodward Fire Department. Military graveside rites will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the United States Army of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Merle Andrew Shore was born on the family farm October 13, 1934 in Major County, southwest of Fairview, Oklahoma; he was the son of James Bird and Jenny Frances (Wallace) Shore. In the early 50's, the family moved to a farm south of May. Merle graduated from May High School in 1952.
After high school, Merle started working for the Woodward Fire Department. In November of 1956, Merle was drafted into the United States Army. Following his return from overseas in August of 1958, he continued working for the Woodward Fire Department, retiring in 1978 as a Captain. He began working for the City of Woodward in Building Maintenance and retired as Building Maintenance Superintendent in 1999.
Merle was married to Marlene Schneider and to this union three sons were born, Michael, David and Gene. In 1977, Merle was married to Linda Mae (Bien) Raby and the couple made their home in Woodward.
Merle was an avid fisherman and loved camping. He was always active either wood working or just being with his family.
Survivors include his wife Linda of the home; two sons, David Shore and wife Nancy; Gene Shore and wife Tonya both of Woodward; two step-children, Pam Singhiser and husband Allen; Cathy Kidd all of Woodward; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Angie Tower and husband Clyde of Woodward; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Geneva Biehn, Thelma Gray; and one infant son, Michael Lynn; step-son, Chester Joe Raby.
