Gavin Lane Rodriguez
Wichita, Kansas
Born October 25, 2005 - Died August 9, 2025
Gavin Lane Rodriguez was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to parents Kandra Ramsey and Ricky Rodriguez. He was the beloved brother of Landry Rodriguez, and half-brothers Caleb Castor, Zaylen Rodriguez, and Ayden Rodriguez. He was the cherished grandson of Nana Nita Harper & Brian Massey and Brady & Lisa Walstad, and treasured great-grandson of Richard and "GG" Billie Hilbig, and Glenda Haskins. Gavin shared a special bond with his cat, Armani. Gavin graduated from Derby High School in 2024.
He was preceded in death by his great-great-grandparents Carl & Beatrice Phillips; great-grandpas Lester Haskins and Bob Walstad; great-grandparents Marcello & Maria Rodriguez; great aunt Lois Phillips; "Papa" Bill E. Harper; his uncle Stockton Walstad; and cousins Eden Spaeth and Tiffany Murley.
Gavin's extended family includes Uncle Clint & McKenzie Walstad, Aunt Jordan and Jacob Hall, Aunt Jessica and Jason Nelson, Uncle Timothy and Jennifer Rodriguez, Uncle Matt Banda, special friend/cousin Jude Spaeth, many cousins, and his great aunts and uncles.
Gavin was the kindest, gentlest soul. He struggled with major depressive disorder, and life became too overwhelming, but he lived his days offering love, kindness, and encouragement to others. Many of Gavin's friends have shared how he helped them through their own mental health struggles and was always there to listen without judgment. He never liked anyone to speak a negative word about others, reflecting the meaning of his name - "Defender of all mankind."
He had a passion for hiking through the mountains and the breathtaking red rocks of Moab and Sedona, finding peace and beauty in nature's grandeur. His favorite place of all was the family cabin in Taos, New Mexico, where he found peace and comfort simply sitting with nature and taking it all in.
Gavin was a bright young man with a future ahead of him, whose memory will forever be cherished.
In honor of Gavin's life and his compassionate spirit, memorial donations may be made to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Living Word Fellowship Church in Woodward. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.
