Lyla Kay Latta Richard

Lyla Richard, 83, former Woodward resident passed away, Saturday, March 18, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Lyla Kay (Latta) Richard was born September 28, 1939 to James Truman and Katherine Mae (Atkinson) Latta at their family home in Fargo, Oklahoma. Lyla grew up north of Fargo and attended Fargo schools until her senior year. She then attended Fort Supply High School and graduated with the class of 1957.

She was united into marriage to Elwyn Larry Richard on March 4, 1959 in Ashland, Kansas. The couple made their first home in a cabin at Alabaster Caverns State Park. Lyla lived in Woodward from 1965 to 2006 when she and Larry later moved to Jones, Oklahoma. In 2021, she then moved from Jones to Harrah until she passed.

Lyla was employed at the Fort Supply hospital and then she worked for the Woodward News office but most of her years were spent in banking. She worked for many banks including The Bank of Woodward as a supervisor and bank teller. She also worked on the ranch with her husband.

Lyla enjoyed playing cards, parcheesi, and other board games as well as playing the piano, gardening, and going to the casino. Anytime she was with family, they were playing cards. Her family and grandchildren are what brought her the most joy.

Lyla is survived by her daughters Denise Richard and Sheri Richard; one brother, Duane Latta; grandsons, Curtis Melton, DJ Winters and wife Amy, Jared Winters, Kogan Garrett and wife Marley; granddaughters, Rachelle Pearce and husband Rustin, Kristen Melton; great grandchildren, Bradyn Melton, Taelyn Garrett, Raegen and Ramsey Pearce, Kale, Chesney, Hudson, and Hartly Winters; three sister in laws, Dixie Gordon, Jessie Latta, and Janet Latta; and many cousins, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Katherine Latta, her husband Larry, three brothers, Larry Dean, Ronnie and David Latta, and three sister in laws, Almeta Latta, Joy Latta, and Yvonne Latta.
