VERNAL LAVERAN "PITCH" PITCHER

18 Mar 1934 - 6 Nov 2009

The funeral service for Vernal Laveran “Pitch” Pitcher, 75, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Canton First Baptist Church with Pastor Harold Hook officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery at Woodward, Oklahoma under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma.

Vernal was born on March 18, 1934 at Woodward, Oklahoma to Roy and Nannie Mae (Knox) Pitcher, and departed this life on November 6, 2009 at his home near Canton, OK.

Pitch graduated at Tangier High School in 1952. He married Mary Charlene Pflum on September 19, 1954 at Woodward, Oklahoma. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a clerk for 33 years and resided at Waynoka, Oklahoma during that time. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Canton First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Marquietta Pitcher; and nephew Ronnie Hadley.

Surviving are his wife Charlene of the home; two sons, Rob Roy Pitcher and wife Deborah Lynn of Amarillo, Texas; Kirk Alan Pitcher and wife Deby Kay Dodd Amarillo, Texas; one daughter Tina Louise Kanatzar and Husband Mitch; Topeka, Kansas, six grandchildren, Joey Pitcher, Jamie Pitcher, Christy Ledford and Katy Pitcher all of Amarillo, Texas and Sheena Brillhart and Misty Kanzatzar both Topeka, Kansas; ten great-grandchildren, Londyn of Topeka, Kansas, Brianne, Makenna, Brynlee, Molly, Ruby, Davion, Nehemiah, Kamora and Brian all of Amarillo, Texas.
