Dorthea "Dot" Pierce, 62 year old Freedom resident, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at her home in Freedom. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in the Freedom High School Auditorium with the Reverend Mark Kinkle officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Woodward on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home, Woodward.
Dorthea Lee Pierce was born October 13, 1945 in Woodward, Oklahoma to John Henry and Viola Mae (Hawbaker) Kornele. Dot was reared in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Collin Edward Pierce on March 18, 1967 in Woodward, Oklahoma.
They were blessed with two sons, Collin Edward and Bryan Keith. Dot stayed at home with her sons and also worked for a period of time at Tregos. In the early 1970's the family moved to Pretty Prairie, Kansas and then in 1974 they moved to Freedom where they have lived since that time. Dot worked for the Freedom school for four years in the lunch room, cleaned houses for many people in Freedom and was a waitress at different restaurants.
Dot was a member of the First Christian Church and was baptized in 2007 at her home in Freedom by the Reverend Carolyn Murrow. She loved to hunt Arrowheads, fishing, dancing with Collin and reading. Dot’s favorite thing was playing with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Collin Pierce of Freedom; two sons, Collin Edward Jr. and wife Sandy of Hardtner, Kansas; Bryan Pierce and wife Cindy of Freedom; five grandchildren, Christan Cheyanne Pierce, Ariel Nicole Pierce, John Clay Pierce, Ashtyn Marie Pierce, and Ranson Keith Pierce; one brother, Donald "Guy" Kornele and wife Wilma of Ft. Supply; four sisters, Juanita Miller of Conroe, Texas; Norma Grunke and husband Jim of Woodward; Dona Mae Lucas and husband A.G. of Woodward; Evelyn Petty of Ft. Supply; sister-in-law, Annie Kornele of Woodward; special friend, Sue Mitchell of Freedom; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Bertha Hawkins, infant brother, Bobby Jean and her brother Marvin "Buck" Kornele.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Ambulance or the Share Medical Hospice with the funeral home accepting the contributions. Remembrances may be shared on-line at www.billingsfuneralhomewoodward.com
