R.C. “Bob” Phillips, 73 year old Sharon resident, went to be with his Heavenly Father on the evening of September 16, 2015, surrounded by many who loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Robert Charles Phillips was born on January 5, 1942, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Charlie and Alice (Steadman) Phillips. Known as R.C. or Bob by his friends, he was raised on their family farm north of Sharon, Oklahoma, along with his older sister Virginia. He learned the value of hard work and the art of farming and ranching from his father early in life. After graduation from Sharon High School, Bob was united in marriage to Jonna Cleveland and to this union, five children were born, Tracey, Chuckie, Lindsay, Wade, and John. They made their home in Sharon, near his parents, in a house that he and his father built.
Bob attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma while he raised his family.
He traveled the country and abroad as a cattleman, earning regard as a skilled cattle buyer and making many life-long friends along the way.
On May 12, 1979, Bob was married to Linda Hughes and to this union, two children were born, Amber and Tiffany. They made their home in Sulphur Springs, Texas, where Bob continued his cattle ranching operation.
In the Spring of 1996, Bob and his family returned to Sharon, Oklahoma, where he continued working as a cattle buyer, attending sales in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. At the sale barn, he never sat alone. Someone always sat down next to him to ask about him about his travels abroad, or for advice about cattle.
His sense of humor was unique and unmistakeable, making him a favorite among the grandchildren, who always flocked in numbers to sit in Grandpa Bob’s lap. He enjoyed life, always working hard when there was work to be done, taking time to enjoy the little things, and always making the most of it if things didn’t turn out as planned. He was delighted when his wife Linda retired and helped him feed calves and work on the ranch
Bob took great pride in his family, always sharing the accomplishments of his six children, 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren with others. He also enjoyed spending time with his mother a number of times every day. He learned from his parents to trust in the Lord early in life and continued to be faithful and to trust in Him, teaching these things to his children also
His friends and neighbors knew that he was someone they could always count on, as he was always “running down the road” to help someone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Phillips, his son, Chuckie Phillips, and his grandson, Logan Dewald.
He is survived by his mother Alice Phillips of Sharon, Okla., his wife Linda Phillips of Sharon, Okla., his children, Tracey Slaby and husband David of Carrollton, Tex., Lindsay Aguirre and husband Felix of Carrollton, Tex., Wade Phillips and wife Raeann of Vici, Okla., JT Phillips of Cashion, Okla., Amber Ham and husband Curry of Sharon, Okla., and Tiffany Phillips of Oklahoma City, Okla., his grandchildren, Dawson and Ally Slaby of Carrollton, Tex., Trent DeWald and wife Lyndi of McKinney, Tex., Brittany Vanden Heuvel and husband Cole of Dallas, Tex., Felix, Priscilla, and Gabrielle, Aguirre of Carrollton, Tex., Sean Phillips of Wichita, Kan., Blake Phillips of Sharon, Okla., Allison Phillips of Phoenix, Ariz., Elijah, Wade, Elizabeth, MaryAnn, Riggin, Phoenix and Peter Phillips of Vici, Okla., Lauren Alex and husband Jordan of Oklahoma City, Okla., Landon Phillips of Cashion, Okla., and Grayson and Connor Ham of Sharon, Okla., two great-children, Logan DeWald of McKinney, Tex., and Blair Vanden Heuvel of Dallas, Tex., his sister Virginia Holland and husband Don of Oak Point, Tex., his niece Kim Tittle and husband Scott of Little Elm, Tex., and his nephew Greg Holland of San Francisco, Calif.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
